What to do in your garden in August

Gardening in August

Slugs & Snails can be a big bug bear and can have a bumper year with damp conditions. Too many of them for the birds and frogs to keep up with.

Gardening in August
  • We have plenty of slug and snail removal solutions, including organic products.
  • Have you tried the old trick of hollowing out oranges or grapefruits which attract the slimey creatures?
  • Weeds – Will be thriving with the damp humid conditions and need to be kept under control.
  • Keep dead heading flowering plants to encourage more flowering and dead head perennials such as lillies to replenish their bulbs to ensure a good show for next year.
  • Once lavander has died back cut back the faded flower spike and feed with an all purpose plant food.
  • Now is also the time to take cuttings from tender perennials such as pelargoniums and fuchsias.
  • Collect ripening seed from plants you wish to propogate.
